Program Background:On April 12th, 2016 Google announced its commitment to training 1 million (Nigeria = 400,000; South Africa = 300,000; Kenya = 200,000; Rest of Africa = 100,000) young people in Africa on digital skills in the next year, as part of Google’s contribution to growing Africa’s digital economy. With an expected half a billion internet users in Africa by 2020, there are huge opportunities for African businesses and young digital entrepreneurs. If young people have the right skills, they can build businesses, create jobs and boost economic growth across the continent. We hope to equip a million young Africans (18-35yrs) with digital skills and tools to help them build an online presence, create content, understand web design and user experience, social media, and app development.
Africa 118 Inc. a leading training, capacity building and business incubation provider has been sponsored by Google to deliver training to youth across Africa as part of our Digital Skills for Africa initiative. Due to this sponsorship, the trainers and the content for training are offered to all participants free of charge.
Having successfully achieved the 1million trained milestone, we have embarked on SMBs training. As from 1st April 2017, we shifted our focus from youth/job seekers to SMBs training. This is an exciting opportunity as we believe that the SMBs are the real drivers of Africa’s economy. The SMBs appreciation and uptake of digital skills training as a capacity development initiative is expected to be much better than students. As such, we are moving into a phase of the program that presents us with a unique golden opportunity to drive real positive impact and that is the key objective of the SMBs training.
The mode of content disseminatio n is still projector, PowerPoint but with more one to one interaction with our digital team. We will also bring in the following components to drive impact:

Subsidized website development for interested SMBs
Subsidized 3-months online marketing campaign for interested SMBs
Free light refreshment: water, juice, soda etc.
Smaller participants: 50 – 150 attendants
